Special Chief Justice Dearie tells Trump team to accept or shut up on planted evidence claims

When it comes to declassification, Trump has claimed to “declassify everything” out of court, but when Dearie pressed Trump’s legal team, they refused to name a single document that had been declassified. Trump may still go on TV to talk about his ability to magically turn documents into declassified status, but he will find it very difficult to bring this up in court – his lawyers had the opportunity to do just that, and they approved.

Similarly, Trump has also been hinting that some of the documents found at Mar-a-Lago may have been planted by the FBI, going back to comments he made on his failed social media platform the day after the FBI search. . Trump and his representatives have repeated these claims multiple times in interviews and rallies. During his Wednesday night interview with Fox pundit Sean Hannity, Trump did it again, suggesting that the FBI may have “dropped something” in the piles of documents that were photographed at Mar-a-Lago, or that they could have “added something”. later. But even on Hannity, Trump was unwilling to be more specific.

Dearie is not about to let this claim by Trump derail or delay the special master process, saying it will run “simultaneously” with the document review process.

This order also sets a fairly quick set of dates by which the remaining steps of that process will happen. By Friday (ie tomorrow), both parties must agree on an electronic hosting site for the documents. By Monday, all documents should be in place on that site, with unique numbers for each page. Trump’s team will immediately begin reporting any pages he deems privileged, “on an ongoing basis,” and these documents will be addressed as they appear.

The Trump team will be done with this by October 1. On Oct. 14, when he will file “his final and complete record of appointments,” and both sides must finish their review of any disputed documents by Oct. 1. 21. It’s not exactly October 1st. 7 The date Dearie wanted all along, but it’s also not the November 30 post-election date set by Judge Cannon.

None of this means that Trump will keep quiet about the “planted documents.” After all, he hasn’t been quiet at all about “declassifying documents.” But it does mean that he will have a very hard time if he ever tries to make such a claim in court.
